UPV, people with disabilities, and innovative solutions
“The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have reconsidered the way in which we interrelate, work, learn, enjoy our free time, etc. Old trades have disappeared while others have come to take their place redefining a new era that we call in various ways: postmodern, postdigital, hyperconnected. People should be able to master these technologies and those that emerge constantly. Since 2012 at Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Spain, we have been doing workshops, talks and courses for people with functional diversity and related to the use and management of ICT. We have also been designing and developing ad hoc applications based on Smartphones and Tablets that provide people with functional diversity greater autonomy and independence. An inclusive relationship that stimulates the intellect, expanding skills and increasing self-esteem. These activities and projects result in greater social inclusion of people with diversity, giving visibility to the innumerable barriers they face every day and that we must help, as much as possible, to eliminate. For the work and efforts made, we obtained the 2017 University Social Responsibility Award granted by the UPV Social Council.”
